Freshwater Fishing

Each year, “Ice Out” marks the beginning of Freshwater fishing for Eagle Mountain Guide Service. During the early season we are trolling the surface for Landlocked Salmon and Lake Trout as well as spending time on the streams fishing for big Brookies. Matt Whitegiver, Owner/operator of EMGS spends most of May and June fishing for Leens Lodge on West Grand Lake and also Big Lake, both in the village of Grand Lake Stream. West Grand is one of the best Salmon lakes in the state of Maine and Matt is one the most successful Salmon guides on the lake. The Salmon and Lakers are on top this time of year so we'll troll fly-lines mostly as well as shallow running down riggers and lead core line. Eagle Mountain produces many 20+ fish days each season.

As we get into early to mid June, the Smallmouth Bass fishing heats up and when we're not up at West Grand, we're fishing a lake only 30 mins from Bar Harbor. This lake is one of if the Best Trophy Small mouth Bass Fisheries in Maine and possibly even all of New England! 2, 3, and 4 pound Smallies are caught on a daily basis and even 5 -6 lb fish are frequently caught.

If you are visiting Bar Harbor and Acadia Info, and you like to fish, take a day with the family & get in on this fantastic fishing action. Salmon and Lake Trout fishing is still good on this lake as well, so a day can be split up fishing for both Smallies and Salmon. Bring your swimming trunks along, this spring fed lake is fantastic for swimming and snorkeling. When not guiding fishermen, our 12 yr old son Ethan likes to snorkel amongst the rocks and spot Bass for Matt to cast to. It's a lot of fun for both of them.

Eagle Mountain provides all the gear you need to fish but if you have a favorite pole be sure to bring it along. If you choose, you can enjoy a shore lunch cooked by your guide, otherwise bring your lunch to eat on the boat. When fishing this lake we use our 18' Starcraft pontoon boat. It provides lots of room for the whole family to fish and swim from. So get off Mount Desert Island for a day a come see a little piece of Maine you will thoroughly enjoy.

For the fly-fisherman, you can't beat a day on the world famous Grand Lake Stream. This stream is well known around the country and the world for it's fantastic fly-fishing. It's 2 hours from Ellsworth and offers fantastic Fly fishing for Landlocked Salmon.
