Maine Black Bear Hunts

We have exclusive rights to 45,000 acres of prime wilderness bear habitat.

Eagle Mountain offers quality affordable, bear hunts in the remote wilderness of Washington County in Downeast Maine, less than one hour from New Brunswick Canada. We have been hunting bears in this area for 27 years and have numerous proven bait sites covering over 50,000 acres of prime Bear habitat.

Hunts are limited to 13 hunters per week assuring individual attention which is important to us. Transportation to and from your stand is provided by your guide who stays within radio range should you need him early. Your guide walks you in to your stand and picks you up.

You have your choice of rifle, bow, shotgun, handgun, muzzle loader or crossbow to hunt with (see Weapons & Ammo). We take full advantage of the time allowed for pre-season baiting and all hunters sit on active baits.

The majority of our rugged 2x4 framed platform ladder stands are placed within 25 yards of the bait. We have double platform stands for those who want to bring someone along to film or sit with a junior hunter.  We also have ground blinds for those who prefer.

We have a brief informational and safety meeting with each group at the beginning of the week. Topics we discuss include how to size up a bear, what to do if you kill early, going in and out of the stand site etc.... All of the guides stay in the woods, monitoring the radios and are at your stand within minutes of a call. Pick up time is shortly after dark no one waits long to be picked up. If someone has a bear down, All hunters are picked up first... Only  then do we retrieve bears.

Everyone has a great time at bear camp. We don’t set you out in your stand till afternoon, so you have all morning to ride your ATV and explore the endless miles of trails. You can coyote hunt, or fish the many brooks & ponds around the lodge. We strive to make sure everyone has a great time with great food because we want you to come again. And many people do...A lot of our hunters (now friends) are yearly repeat customers and any of them would be happy to talk with you about their experience. For a list of names and numbers, give us a call or shoot us an e-mail.

The Wilderness Lodge offers 10 bedrooms, 7 double and 3 single rooms, each with it's own bathroom & shower, a large commercial kitchen and dining area able to handle up to 25. You will enjoy a relaxed “old time” country lodge atmosphere and private, comfortable rooms and great home cooked meals. The other end of the building is the big "main lodge room" complete with a large fieldstone fireplace, foosball table and pool table. We are off the electrical grid and offer a unique change for sportsmen and outdoor enthusiasts, the lodge is run by generator power only.

Just a few testimonials...

Bear Hunter 2004..."That trip was probably the best one I have

ever been on, my friend. All the guys were top notch. I felt like I was
hunting with friends I had known a lifetime, not just a few days. That is
what makes an operation like the one you have special."

Hi, Matt and Lisa ... Thank you a zillion times over for everything! I'm still “FLYING HIGH!”

I can't wait until my bear is mounted and back home again.

Bear camp was not like we had expected. The food was fantastic and the camaraderie exceptional. We were very glad to see so many share their hunting stories. We never imagined we would have had so much fun.

We know you folks put a lot of hard work into making sure we ate good, had a good time and especially to have a successful hunt. Your efforts did not go unnoticed. We truly appreciated all your efforts and hard work. Matt, a special thank you from me (Paula) for getting me into a tree stand after I tagged out to be near Dick at Washout bait and then into one at Mopang. It meant a lot to me.

I'M AWFULLY GLAD I GOT A BEAR!!! I hope I didn't drive you too crazy with my excitement. Thanks again for all the work you and the guys put into cleaning, skinning and packing my bear for me. Take care. Best wishes. And again,

"I have used Eagle Mountain Outfitters for several Bear hunts and have found Matt to be a great guide/friend. He will do his very best to accommodate your every need. His staff is very knowledgeable and willing to make your trip a great success. You'll see all sorts of wildlife and breath taking scenery. The lodging is very nice and Lisa does a great job with the meals, you'll never walk away hungry!! I have taken several bear in the 375 to 400 lb range, so if your looking to hunt big bear, I highly recommend giving Matt and Lisa the chance to show you the trip of a life time at a cost that is very reasonable."

Hello Matt. Rich from Cleveland,Oh. I was up for the third week of bear season 2013 with you. Wanted to thank you for the best bear hunt ever. The guides, staff, lodging, great food, friendly, relaxed environment and not to forget to mention the hunt and the nice bear I took on Weds. of that week. Everything was great, absolutely professional, A-1. I was hunting at haunted bait site and had six bear total at my bait site in the three days, taking the largest on Weds. The bear meat is in the freezer and the taxidermy man is at work on the mount. Looking very much forward to hunting with you again in 2014. I have been busy here as well with whitetail archery season going on, none yet, will keep you posted. Good luck on your whitetail season, keep me posted on how you do. See you in 2014 for ol'Smokey. God bless you and yours.

Matt, We had a great time, I saw 7 the first night ( a sow with 3 cubs and a sow with 2 cubs) the second night I saw 5 (a sow with 3 cubs and a large unknown bear shaking a tree... No shot!) The third night I saw one lone sow and shot her. My total was 13 viewed in three days, one shot.

This was a great hunt.  The guides... JR and Bret were outstanding, they remind me of close personal friends here in Ohio.  All in all this hunt exceeded our expectations, the accommodations were excellent the food perfect.  I have to add... the other hunters were just a great group of guys, Reaper One made it even better!

Thanks for the hunt! Good luck with your deer season,
