Moose

Maine’s Moose hunt is a split season with one week in late September and the other in October. Eastern Maine (as with deer) produces some of the biggest racked bulls in the state. The habitat is ideal for Moose with the generations of wood cutting operations in the area. If you’re fortunate enough to draw a once in lifetime Maine Moose Permit, you owe it to yourself to hire a guide. Our guides know all the prime Moose hot spots and will save you precious time scouting. You’ll hunt big bulls that have been scouted out prior to the season. In 2001 Eagle Mountain’s hunter bagged the 3rd largest bull in the state.

Your day will start out before sunrise with a big breakfast then it’s off to a remote area where the moose are known to be. It’s rutting season and bulls are on the move. You, your sub-permitee and your guide will still hunt while your guide attempts to call in a bull. There’s nothing more exciting than hearing a big bull respond to a call on a frosty morning in the big woods of Maine. When a 1200 lb 60” bull comes in looking for a fight (or for love) it’s an adrenaline rush like no other!

Maine’s Moose hunt is by lottery only. Applications come out each January and the drawing is held in June. If you would like more information on applying for a Maine Moose Permit click here.

If you have any questions and or would like help filling out your application or choosing your zones, give me a call.

If you are drawn for a permit, you are going to receive a mountain of mail from outfitters all over the state. In most cases you won’t even know yet that you’ve been drawn! If you have been drawn for zones 18, 19 or 28 look no further, Eagle Mountain knows your zone and knows it well. We are in the woods either fishing, bear hunting, deer hunting or rabbit hunting and we are on top of the Moose activity all year not just the days before the hunt.
