The Wilderness Lodge is located in the heart of Downeast Maine, where outdoor activities are abundant. Canada, Eastport (the most easterly point in the United States), Quoddy Head Lighthouse, Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park, Roque Bluffs State Park, and Grand Lake Stream are easy day trips from the lodge.

There are over 750 miles of world class ATV trails in Downeast Maine. Two major trails are accessible directly from the Wilderness Lodge, the Downeast Trail System and the Cherryfield Food Trail System. ATV trails are open from mid May through late November.

This part of Maine is blessed in that it has countless lakes, ponds, rivers, and streams that provide choices for all levels of paddling activities, fishing, and swimming. Novice paddlers can access several area lakes with sand beaches that offer easy launches, sheltered coves, and inlets that provide protection from the waves and winds of the larger lakes. For more experienced paddlers, there are a number of local systems that are short drives from the lodge that offer a more challenging run, such as the Machias River system. The Machias River, just 2 miles from the Wilderness Lodge, is an up to 76 mile wilderness canoe trip with class I, II and III rapids, runnable from headwaters to sea by canoeing from 5th Machias lake to the coastal town of Machias. Canoe trips on the river are runnable from late April to mid June. Drop offs and pick ups can be arranged at the lodge.

Experience many more great day trips into the woods and waters of Downeast Maine; moose, bald eagle, white-tailed deer, coyote, various birds, and waterfowl are common sightings. Hiking and backpacking trails, fishing, primitive camping, boating, swimming, and picnicking at any number of area lakes are just short drives from the Lodge.
